Rare Item Guide (Lost and Found+ Achievement)

World of Warcraft : Mists of Pandaria

Done with all your daily quests for the day? Looking for an alternative activity to do? Well, you can join me as I camp for Malik’s Stalwart Spear in the Dread Wastes. Since I’m just sitting here in-game, it’s as good a time as any to make a Rare Item Guide for all the “artifacts” you can find around the continent of Pandaria. The ultimate goal is to collect twenty of these rare items in order to obtain the title “The Relic Hunter.”

You may find some useful items around Pandaria that are Battle.net account bound. They’re generally really powerful for their level requirement (i.e. Item Level 450, Required Level: 86), so they’ll make great additions to your alternative characters’ equipment when you decide to level them.

Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm

For The Achievement Whore Hunter

As of this post, there are four associated achievements Lost and Found, Finders Keepers, One Man’s trash… and Is Another Man’s Treasure. Aside from a few exceptions, only the Rare quality items count toward the achievement tracker. Fortunately, there are roughly ~28 known items that count toward the achievement, giving you some wiggle room. (As far as I know, looting multiple instances of rare items you’ve already looted won’t add more toward the achievement, but I could be mistaken.)

I’ve organized the items (the ones that count toward the achievements) by zone. To reference any listed coordinates, you may wish to download the Wowhead Client which will add a set of coordinates to bottom-left corner of your Map whenever you open it. It will display your character’s current coordinates, as well as the coordinates of where your mouse is hovering over. NPCscan is also a great addition to your rare-item hunting arsenal, as you can add five custom NPC entries that will alert you to their nearby presence.

Additional Notes and Pointers

This achievement is pretty easy, as long as you have the patience and dedication for it. Here are some pointers that may assist you in your quest to become a Relic Hunter:

  • Server Restarts – Server restarts are a blessing. Some (not all) rare items/NPCs tend to spawn as soon as servers become live again. If you camp at a specific item/NPC, and log in the second the servers are up again, chances are good you might add another count toward your achievement(s).
  • WRU Sprite Cloak?

  • Odd Hours of the Day – Trying to look for rare items during prime time hours is very counterproductive. The more people playing, the less odds you’ll stumble upon a rare item. Try to look for them at weird hours of the day. I’ve seen a few at 5 or 6 AM. Not recommended for those who covet their normal sleep schedule. Weekends are a bit iffy too, because even those odd hours can be bustling depending on which part of the world you’re from and what server you’re playing on.
  • Create A Flight Route – If you’re just starting out, you have at least 28 known rare items ahead of you – figure out a good path to bounce between spawn point to spawn point, to increase your chances of finding a rare item. An addon like TomTom may help you with this.
  • Camp Specific Items – Some items you may want to obtain before others, maybe for your alternative characters, or for your farming purposes and so forth. The rare NPCs that you interact with in order to obtain the rare items are generally the easiest to camp, especially if you have NPCscan alerting you of their nearby/immediate presence.

Hey Dyril, love your guide. Thanks for writing this comprehenisve guide! I wanted to add for others who are tracking this achievement, you can see any of the items again at least on other toons, and if you loot multiple of an item, your tracker will not go up. I just confirmed this today 12/1/12 with the Blade of the Prime. So, if you see an item again, share with your friends!

Also of note: When looting your items MAKE SURE TO HAVE BAG SPACE. These items will disappear if you do not loot them when you open then up. Also make sure you wont get attacked while looting as these items will despawn. You will get a count for finding it, but not the item. Depending on the GM, you will not get the items restored to you, as its the nature of the item. A lot of people have had this problem, so it is important to know this when searching for these items. You dont want to spend 20+ hours sitting for something and not get it because you dont have bag space or something spawned and smacked you.

Hah, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I also experienced some of those mysteriously disappearing items. What was super annoying for me, was that I looted the mining pick and didn’t get credit for finding it. After all that time camping for it, I was not inclined to find another. I just went on with my life =P

It appears as if these items spawn every 24 hours. My guildmate found Hammer of the Ten Thunders (I was with him). I checked after 12 hours and every 4 hours or so since then and found it almost exactly 24 hours later. Thank you for the guide. I was able to find all but one within 2 days of starting

For those who are wondering, as per my experience NPCScan does NOT work. I punched in all the info on all the items I was missing and went searching. Didn’t find anything when I came back to this site as a referance and noticed that I’d skipped Wodin’s Mantid Shanker. Went back to look and there it was sitting in the well, but NPCScan didn’t go off. If there’s something special I’m supposed to download or do to the addon could anyone please let me know?

NPCscan only works for physical NPCs that you can click, not objects that you mouseover to interact with a gear. These include the Rapana Whelk, the Ghostly Pandaren Craftsman/Fisherman, the frozen guy in Kun-Lai, and the Jade statue.

Your link for the craftsman takes you to the fishermans page just a heads up

Yup, I’ve looted duplicates before, particularly the 2H Sword.
